The Sinaloa cartel leader - the most wanted by US and Mexican anti-drug agencies - was arrested by Mexican marines at a resort in Mazatlan, northern Mexico. Analysts from the Mexican and American governments predict that El Mayo's death or capture would trigger a "full-blown war" for control of the organization. Located across the state border in neighboring Sonora, the municipality of San Luis Rio Colorado has also seen a rise in violent crime during the same period in which Mexicali has faced higher murder rates. According to Fox News, the city is amongst one of the most dangerous in the world due to violence and is currently sitting at a level 2 rating. The death of an Australian woman while undergoing cosmetic surgery in Mexico has shocked her family and drawn warnings about the risks of medical tourism. Although most of Mexico's drug smuggling routes are under the control the Sinaloa Cartel and Gulf Cartel, the Tijuana Cartel saw its power weakened with the arrests of its top boss,Javier Arellano Flix, in 2006. The council says Guatemala City and San Salvador are no longer among the world's 50 most violent cities and San Pedro Sula, Honduras, the world's homicide capital from 2011-2014, now ranks 34 th, with 41.19 murders per 100,000 population.
